About Me

Hello and welcome to my website.

Þórhallur

That is how my name is written in Icelandic. Þór is the name of the God Thor and halIur means palace and therefore the name Thorhallur as it is written in English means the Palace of Thor.

Me and my family live in Reykjavik Iceland and we are travelers. We have traveled all over Iceland and I know my country pretty well. There are so many wonderful places to see in Iceland and I am going to write about many of them on my website. I will also give the reader other useful information.

My family and I have visited many countries and have enjoyed different cultures. I am a planner, so I like to plan my trips. I dig for information about the country I am visiting before I go. The best information I receive always comes from local people. Sometimes, I look for information in books, but today, I mostly turn to the internet.

I was an exchange student in Hanover Pa. in 1967 – 1968 and I attended South-Western High School. I still have many friends in USA and lovely memories. English is not my primary language so please, if you see spelling errors let me know.

I have been working as a computer engineer all my life, but now I am retired and this website will be like a hobby of mine because I no longer need to go to work every day.

I found Wealthy Affiliate when I started to plan my retirement and signed up for free to learn more about it. Before I knew it, I was building my own website.  The training is very good and if you like to have your own website and blog about your travels or anything else, I suggest you have a closer look at what they have to offer and maybe even earn a little money on the way. You can visit Wealthy Affiliate here.

Facts About Iceland

I decided to create this website with valuable information about my beautiful country for our visitors, so they can plan their trips and enjoy their visits to Iceland.

Our guests have limited time, and they like to use every minute of it wisely. I am listening to their questions on social media, and I will try to answer most of them on my website. The better you prepare and plan your short visit, the more enjoyable your trip will be.

The very first fact you need to know about Iceland is the fact that Iceland is highly geothermal active. The geothermal power is our gold mine or if you prefer our Oil well without the pollution. All houses in the great Reykjavik area are heated up with geothermal power. There are about 54 drilled geothermal holes in this area, but you hardly notice them. For this reason only Iceland is a very rich country. We make all our electricity from renewable forces so we use mostly green energy.

I am constantly adding or updating information on my site, and I love to get ideas and requests from my website visitors. If you have a suggestion about content, or if you want to correct me, please do not hesitate to send me a post or to leave a comment below.

Your trip to Iceland

When you land in Keflavik Airport flying with Icelandair your flight attendant will say, “Velkomin heim,” which means “welcome home.” I have not heard this in any other country I have visited. They will also say, “Welcome to Iceland,” and so will I. I hope you will pick up valuable information on my website, and I hope you will enjoy your visit to Iceland.

I need some feedback from my visitors so please leave a comment or a question below.

  1. Hi Thorhallur
A nice site. A few suggestions – I appreciate the guide on how to pronounce your name. If you give phonetic spelling for all Icelandic names that would help. I suggest you also think in terms of visitors to Iceland going on trips. Making excursions etc. Maybe you could tell us some stories about trips you have taken in Iceland. Places you have visited. Make each visit a post. btw – we came to Iceland for 4 days two years ago and we had a great time – Blue Lagoon, horseback riding and the “small circle” I may have forgotten the name.
    Good luck
    Andy
